The Chinese Emperors accumulated a large quantity of extremely fine objets d'art from the four corners of their realm, and beyond, often brought as tributary to the Imperial Court. Each of these objects were meticulously catalogued and carefully stored within the appropriate treasury. In order to do so, each treasure required the fabrication of beautiful custom packaging, a craft that developed into its own separate art form. Such imperial packages are the subect of the present catalogue, illustrating the finest examples now housed in and on loan from the Palace Museum, Beijing. Packaging includes that created for scholar's implements, paintings, seals, musical instruments, religious relics, hunting paraphernalia and more. A richly illustrated catalogue on this generally neglected art. Text and captions in trilingual English, Portuguese and Chinese. Printed in 1,000 copies only , 169 colour plates.
