Jiang Wei in Tianshui Pass. Jiang Wei was a general of Wei who surrendered to Zhuge Liang of Shu during the epoch of the Three Kingdoms. In this Peking opera he wears a make-up with three tile-shapes patches of red. In the centre of his forehead is a taijitu, a diagram representing the opposing positive-negative forces of nature. It is a sign of mastery of the art of war.
